Circle of innovation The responsibility of Maastricht UMC+ spans the entire spectrum of the circle of innovation. We are at the cradle of new discoveries. This is our basis for the application of new knowledge and for the development of treatments, interventions and guidelines that contribute to healthy living. Within the circles of innovation, Maastricht UMC+ creates value that - in addition to direct economic effects including employment and cost-effective treatments - leads to a healthier population. Neurointervention profile: ‘Deep Brain Stimulation’ Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS) is part of the Brain and neurological disease profile. This profile focuses on the brain and nervous system. We study the complex relationships between fundamental mechanisms of the brain and the patients’ symptoms, searching for application areas for innovative neurointervention. Common brain disorders such as dementia, Parkinson’s disease and psychiatric conditions have a large impact on the quality of life and the costs of healthcare. Structural collaboration with regional care institutions allows us to translate academic knowledge into innovations that can be applied directly to patients and their environment. With all our hearts, we are dedicated to provide the best possible care and to improve health by integrating patient care, research and education. The plus sign in our name indicates that we distinguish ourselves from other Maastricht UMC+ Portfolio We distinguish ourselves in four profile areas: + Cardiovascular disease + Respiratory disease + Oncology + Brain and neurological disease These profiles cover the total continuum of care and research: from prevention to aftercare, from research to application in healthcare.
